External Inspection

External inspection typically involves an initial screening of the vessel by the drone. The survey data will be transmitted to the system user, who then reviews the information to check for defects on the vessel’s exterior, such as peeling paintwork, cracks, and dents.

Drones can be utilised right through the oil and gas value chain from storage tanks and offshore platforms. It can fly over storage tanks in shale fields with high-definition cameras, even thermal cameras by adding intelligence to the payload of the drone in addition to being able just to see what is happening. The drones will fly close to ship structures, this means that instead of having to fly within distances as short as one metre from the structure, the drone can take high-definition images from further away.
